Empowering Student Voice Through Digital Creation
In Class Tech Tips, Monica Burns champions the power of digital tools to help students express themselves in creative ways. She reminds teachers that “creation isn’t just about the tool—it’s about giving students meaningful opportunities to share their ideas and make learning visible.”
Burns highlights apps like Book Creator and Flip, where students can combine text, images, and audio to share their learning journeys. What stood out to me is her belief that technology should move students from consumption to creation. Instead of just absorbing content, they become designers of meaning.
This insight made me reflect on my own teaching. I often integrate technology for reinforcement, but Burns challenges me to use it for empowerment. I now ask, “How can students use this tool to express what they know in their own voice?”
By giving students a platform to publish and share their stories, we nurture both confidence and creativity—key skills for lifelong learners.
