Human Connection in a Digital Classroom
Vicki Davis, better known as the Cool Cat Teacher, reminds us that “technology should enhance relationships, not replace them.” Her writing is a refreshing call to keep empathy and connection at the heart of digital learning.
Davis shares how collaborative tools—like Google Docs, podcasting, and video reflections—can build a sense of community. In one example, her students created podcasts about local history, interviewing elders and weaving their stories into a digital archive. The project didn’t just teach tech skills; it built bridges across generations.
This approach inspired me to think differently about classroom tech. It’s easy to focus on the latest app or feature, but Davis shows that the most meaningful learning happens when technology helps students connect—to one another and to their communities.
Moving forward, I plan to use collaborative tools not just for efficiency, but for empathy. Davis’s philosophy reinforces that our classrooms, whether physical or digital, should always center on human stories.
